Words from the WarlordSeptember A.S. XVIII had planned another long tedious treatise on another aspect of warfare, but personal affairs have led me to put it off until next month. Instead let me take this opportunity to say that the Vinhold - St. Andrew war was a pleasurable experience. Several battles were fought, of various types, including castle battles, open field, resurrection, and a double bridge battle. Those who participated had a great deal of fun, and (one hopes) learned something. Those who didn't did not. It was a nice little tune-up for the Caid vs. Knowne World War in September, and most importantly, a spirit of good fellowship and chivalry prevailed. There was only one incident that might have been serious: a novice fighter discovered that a vinyl-covered cardboard belt does not make an optimum chinstrap. His helm flew off and he was struck on the head by a blow. Fortunately he was not seriously injured, but everyone who was aware of what had happened spent a few long anxious moments. Fighters!! Please make sure your equipment is safe! When in doubt, ask a marshal or at least a known experienced fighter. In any case, the event went off well, everyone had a good time, and the mercenaries were paid (at least I was). Someday I may write on a lesser known rule of warfare: Make sure you get paid! Until next time, I'll hoist a Guinness (Vinhold pays well), and say "See you at the next war." -- Thomas Buttesthorn
