Remember Agincourt!

It is a foolish and dangerous thing forget any part of history, no matter how "distasteful" it may be to some people.

There is no shame in victory, and battles won by cunning as opposed to “glory” are still victories (and if anyone out there can recall a battle won by glory and chivalry write me!).

The important thing to remember about Agincourt is not how the English won, but how the French lost. A complete recounting of the battle would be too long for this column and has been set down elsewhere*. Suffice it to say that the French employed a mixture of stupidity, arrogance, and bad planning to soundly turn victory into defeat, despite an overwhelming advantage in numbers.

Forgetting their mistakes can only lead to repeating them.

- Eric Foxworthy

The following are some good sources containing information on the battle of Agincourt and others. Most importantly they are written by historians and professionals and are not opinions and speculations put forth by amateurs.

Agincourt by Charles Kightly Almark Publishing, 1974, London.
The Hundred Years' War by Desmond Seward; Athenum, 1978, New York.
Medieval Warfare by H.W. Koch Prentice Hall, 1978.
