An Anglo Saxon Riddle
from Wulfric of Creigull
I am noble and known to men,
and rest often among high and low,
famed among people. I travel widely,
once foreign to friends, and on me stands
robbers' joy, if I am to have
glory in towns or shining wealth.
Now wise men dearly love
my company; I shall reveal
wisdom to many, without speaking words
there upon earth. Although the sons of men
living on land now eagerly seek out
my paths, I sometimes hide
my track from everyone.
